Zoning Commission and BZA - Positions available!

Zoning Vacancy

Liberty Township needs you! Liberty Township is home to a great mix of many types and styles of single and multi-family homes, senior living options, businesses and schools. We are seeing an unprecedented number of new homes being built and an unprecedented number of improvements being made to existing homes. While the majority of new homes and home improvements comply with the existing codes, many projects require residents and/or builders to come before the Zoning Commission or the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) for approval. The members of our Zoning Commission and the BZA are extremely dedicated to preserving the character of our community. They do an exceptional job in working with residents to ensure the integrity of the code is maintained while still valuing residents’ visions for their homes and yards.

Liberty Township is seeking residents to serve on these very important community boards. We have vacancies for both the Zoning Commission and the BZA as regular members (those members who typically attend the scheduled one meeting each month) and as alternate members (those members who are called upon in the absence of regular members). Typically, the boards meet once a month – the Zoning Commission meets the third Wednesday of each month and the Board of Zoning Appeals meets the second Tuesday of each month. Occasionally, there may be a additional meetings of either board depending the number of applications that are being heard. The Township pays members $75 for each meeting that they attend as a member.

The ideal person to serve in these roles are Liberty Township residents who have an interest in preserving the character of the community and who are interested in the growth of the community. There is no specific education or experience required. A member must be committed to attending the meetings and to learning the intricacies of the Zoning Code. It is an interesting role and one in which gives members insight into the future development of the Township and the satisfaction of helping to maintain the beauty of our community.

If you are interested in applying for a role on either Board, please complete our on-line application or contact Township Administrator Mike Schuiling.
